Type: Hydnum septentrionale Fr. : Fr., Systema Mycologicum 1: 414 (1821)
This genus has six species (as of Moreno et al. 2017). Climacodon pulcherrimus has moved to Donkia pulcherrima in the Phanerochaetaceae; it has smaller shelves. One species is common in eastern North America.
- Climacodon septentrionalis forms large imbricate shelves, often on maple.
- Climacodon was listed by Ginns (1998) as belonging in the family Climacodontaceae.
