Genus Cryptoporus (Peck) Shear

[veiled polypore]

This is an odd type of polypore with a covering under the pore layer. Two species have been described.

  1. Cryptoporus sinensis, China; has smaller basidiospores (7.5–10 x 4–5 μm).
  2. Cryptoporus volvatus, North America and East Asia.

Taxonomy
Cryptoporus is in a large clade with Perenniporia, Ganoderma and other genera. Jülich (1981) created the family Cryptoporaceae for this genus.
